Rolling the Dice: The Odds Game
My sister in law got mesothelioma. She picked it up from asbestos and had it inside her since she was a little girl when she helped her mother do the laundry. Her uncle worked in an asbestos plant.
When Wilma was diagnosed with cancer, her immediate question was, "How long do I have?"
The doctor looked at her; "I don't know. Two years, a year, six months............" And his voice trailed off.
Wilma looked him in the eye. She was full of piss and vinegar.
"Good, then I'll take the I don't know."
That was 13 years ago. Wilma is still alive. Her mesothelioma surgeon in Sloan Kittering Hospital, Manhattan says that she is the longest surviving woman, he has ever heard of, to survive this illness.
Go ahead........take the I don't know. What do you have to lose?
