Warning Bacon Can Cause Rectal Cancer

There's a website from the States by a group known as the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Wow. How does that grab you?  My most immediate response was..........."only if you eat it."
But, taking the humour out of the equation, leaves us with their information that the average American eats 18 pounds of bacon a year. They also give this rather disconcerting information:
"1.7 ounces of processed meats consumed daily—less than two strips of bacon—can increase a person’s risk for colorectal cancer by 21 percent. No amount of processed meat is considered safe for consumption."
And:
Every year, about 143,000 Americans are diagnosed with colorectal cancer and approximately 53,000 die of it.
It seems that colorectal cancer is a bigger pain in the ass then I thought.
